  • Overview

    The Systems Administration Group is responsible for Sonic’s core server infrastructure hosting the in-house developed Laboratory Information Management System (LIS) and Radiology Information Management System (RIS) “Apollo” applications running on InterSystems Cache Databases within a Virtualized AIX environment.


    Install, configure, backup, manage, and maintain Sonic’s core servers and associated storage hosting Apollo to provide the functionality required by individual business units while adhering to standards.


    Implement and manage Cache Databases on AIX and Windows Servers.


    Standardise, document, and improve existing systems, consolidate the Standard Operating Environment, and engage in hardware, software and application refresh programs.


    • Plan and implement new virtualised system.
    • Monitor performance and availability of systems.
    • Develop, test, document, and operate backup and disaster recovery procedures.
    • Provide system and scripting support to application development and operational support groups.
    • Liaise with vendors and service providers to ensure that systems perform optimally.
    • Undertake training and attend conferences to gain and maintain appropriate skills.
    • Participate in after-hours maintenance activities as required.



    • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
    • Extensive experience in the configuration and management of IBM AIX based servers and associated storage arrays within a virtualised environment, including
      • Familiarity with AIX installation, upgrades and patching methods
      • Experience with provisioning, configuration, and management of AIX Logical Partitions, including HMC, VIOS and LPARs.
      • Performance monitoring and tuning of virtualised AIX systems.
      • Implementation of performance metrics systems.
      • Experience with AIX backup and restore models and methods including NIM, MKSYSB, IBM Tape Libraries.
      • Experience with IBM Fibre Channel SAN configuration and management.
      • Experience IBM Storage Virtualization using Storwise v7000.
      • Effective shell scripting.
    • Collegiate approach to the team environment, enthusiastic to share skills and experience, mentor colleagues, develop, enhance, and document procedures and records.
    • Strong commitment to working within and enhancing the Standard Operating Environment model.
    • Excellent system documentation skills, including Excel charting and Visio.
    • Appropriate project management skills.
    • Ability to manage vendor relationships.
    • Database Administration, Development and Programming skills and experience highly desirable, particularly Intersystems Cache systems.
    • Basic configuration, management, monitoring and tuning of Windows based servers.
    • Basic windows scripting.
