  • Overview

    Under the supervision of the CEO, the General Manager is the Senior Executive responsible for all Laboratory operational and business activities within the Joint Venture, as defined by the contractual documents, and the goals and objectives assigned by the SHUSA CEO and the Board of Managers. The GM works successfully within a matrix organizational structure designed to achieve productivity standards, performance to budget, quality and service excellence. This includes full P&L responsibility for the Laboratory and overall responsibility for on-boarding, retention, and quality service for all Laboratory accounts.

    Responsibilities

    Essential Functions:

    1. Develops, for approval by Board of Managers, short and long term business plans to provide exceptional service to all existing and acquired Laboratory accounts.
    2. Develops and monitors budgets, under Board of Managers’ approval, with which to manage Laboratory.
    3. Monitors Member Laboratories compliance with agreed upon Operating Standards. Takes necessary steps to ensure correction of deviations from these standards.
    4. Ensures all required monthly and quarterly reporting is performed on a timely basis including financial, operational, and strategic reports. 
    5. Monitors the entire laboratory operations (including phlebotomy, logistics, processing, patient services, client services, reporting, technical, supplies, and billing), working with IT to build the infrastructure necessary to accomplish these activities.
    6. Works within the matrix organization with responsible Department Heads to implement all necessary initiatives and recommendations.
    7. Monitors capacity necessary to handle current and projected workloads, recommends and monitors implementation of necessary enhancements, including staffing, facilities, and equipment.
    8. Effectively communicates (oral and written) with staff and key stakeholders to ensure the successful fulfillment of the Joint Venture Laboratory missions.
    9. Conducts business in an ethical and professional manner in compliance with all laws, regulations and policies.
    10. Demonstrates professional attributes that show commitment as an executive leader.

     

    Additional Responsibilities:

     

    1. Attends organizational meetings as required.
    2. Completes related projects as assigned.

    Qualifications

    Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

    1. Prior experience in management of all aspects of a Pathology Laboratory Business to include technical laboratory operations, marketing/sales, customer service, finance, total quality management, and medical director services.
    2. Ability to effectively interact with SHUSA CEO and Executive Staff, Board of Managers, administrative, operational teams, and Laboratory
    3. Demonstrated strategic and analytic thinking skills, and ability to implement strategic plans.
    4. Strong written communication, interpersonal communication, and public speaking skills.
    5. Strong organizational and detail implementation skills.  
    6. Demonstrated motivational skills to work within the matrix organization to organize, structure, trouble shoot, maintain efficiency of outreach Laboratory services, and effect positive change within a growing company.
    7. Technically sound understanding of clinical laboratory science and diagnostic testing, including pre and post analytical operations.

     

    Education, Licensure, Certification:

    1. Bachelor's degree and relevant job experience to include all facets of clinical laboratory operations.
    2. Master’s degree in business or healthcare management desirable. 
    3. Minimum 10 years’ experience commercial clinical laboratory experience with at least 5 years in a senior operational or executive leadership position. 

    Additional Information

    Environmental Demands:
     
    - Works in temperature controlled environment with frequent commuting between multiple locations in all weather conditions.
    - Essential to be able to communicate unimpeded via telecommunications and electronic media, as well as in person.
    - Requires ability to be physically on site at all Joint Venture facilities throughout the Service Area.
